Well, the last night of the Republican Convention was last night. They had a surprise guest star, Clint Eastwood.
It was one of the few things I did see. I videotaped the thing, except I neglected to consider it might run over so I'm afraid I cut off Romney's speech.
:help: Eastwood was NOT up to "par." I've heard his remarks were "unscripted," and I believe it. It's the ONLY excuse for such a poor performance. It was painful to watch. I admired him as Rowdy Yates, as Detective Callahan. The last major film he was in that I saw, Gran Torino, was terrific. He's always turned in a great film.
And, yes all those were scripted and rehearsed. I get it.
But still, I was sad to see him last night. One radio commentator called him "doddering," which is insulting, but I really can't argue.
What think you guys? Did you see him? What do you think?

It's amazing. I heard most of his speech on radio (computer) first, and it sounded like he was doing a pretty good job. But watching it later, my reaction was a bit like yours. Maybe not quite as severe, but there's no denying he looked old (even with his "sex hair"--what was up with that?).

But the takeaway is still: King Hussein got totally pwned by an 81-year-old actor. :D:D:D:D:D

Snake45,

EXACTLY SO.

in any case, BHO is TOAST about 70 days before the election. = check out The University of Colorado NON-partisan/academic poll of last Friday.
the poll says Romney 54% & BHO 44%, with Romney receiving 320 Electoral College votes.
(fyi, the UC polls have picked the winner for over 3 decades.)

yours, sw

IIRC that wasn't a poll, that was a prediction of a computer model based on state-by-state economic factors. The model correctly "predicted" every winner going back to 1980 based on contemporary data. Very encouraging.

Q. What's the difference between Clint Eastwood and Joe Biden?

A: Biden couldn't win an argument with an empty chair.

(And it's 6-5 pick'em as to whether that great superintellect King Hussein could, either.)

I thought it was spot on, even if the delivery itself was a bit shaky.

Clint managed to reach folks in all 57 states, and he did it sans TelePrompter.

I went back through my videotape and watched the whole speech again.
There's nothing about the material Clint used I have any problem with, and a lot of the criticism the LSM is broadcasting is bellyachers from the left whining about Clint's "attack."
But I still think Clint's delivery was weak and tenuous.

Cut the man some slack, he's 82 years old.
And he'd beat Biden in any contest; debate, fistfight or picking up the ladies.

I was very uncomfortable about this thread. Clint Eastwood is an American icon, and I love the guy (as much as anyone can "love" someone known only through their film and TV creation(s)) and admired him.
I'd like to "cut him some slack." In my heart I already have. But his performance was lacking. I'm sorry. :-(

The line where he said "This is our country, the politicians work for us." was worth the price of admission. I would be shaky too.

Friends,

Mr Eastwood was PLAYING A PART & had been rehearsed!

i have a friend that belongs to the same country club that he does & Donette says that he is as "bright as a lightbulb". - she saw him last Friday, though she didn't talk to him.

btw, he was MASTERFUL in that the rest of the race, an "empty chair" will remind everyone, who saw the sketch on TV or on the WWW, that BHO is FURNITURE.
(is being an empty chair worse than being an empty suit?)

note: BHO was shown, numerous times on TV, sitting in the Cabinet room with his shod feet UP on an antique desk! = he LOST a lot of votes by that "little piece of disrespect", imVho.

as i want him G-O-N-E, GONE, i'm pleased right down to the ground by the whole deal!

yours, sw
