Now that's what I call a happy ending.

I hope her friends, family and the general public assist her in coming to terms with what she had to do. I read today that she is still rattled about this.

Yeah, me too Phantom.

Follow up reports stated that the dead guy had a "large knife" in his hand when he entered the residence, that no charges are being filed against the young mother, and that the other burglar has been charged with murder in the death of his compadre.

She took two slugs off the street.

to all,

given that the vast majority of the "main-SLIME media" is ANTI-self defense & rabidly ANTI-2nd Amendment, i'm shocked at the positive coverage.

the other side of such "news coverage" was when my friend Fred T___________ had to shoot an armed intruder, (who was armed with a 14" butcher knife) that broke into his house & chased his wife up the stairs, with his shotgun. ====> the local TV "evening news" opined that Fred was "a crazed vigilante & a possible racist, who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison so that he cannot kill again."
(one presumes that the "media" thought that Fred should have let the criminal injure or kill his wife!)

the more i learn about leftists, the better i like poisonous snakes, venomous spiders & roaches.

yours, sw

I worked with the press pretty regular prior to my accident. We'd make a pop, and I was stuck doing the press release. In most cases they'd print what I wrote with few if any changes. The few TV interviews I had to do (when the Sheriff and Chief Deputy weren't available - I got a face made for radio) weren't too bad. No cheap editing shots, thank God.

There were times when we had details we didn't want released. They would fill in the blanks with one source quotes and innuendo. Not good reporting if you ask me.

Had a big fight with them over their access to our Incident/Offense reports. They wanted unlimited access, stating that these documents were public record. But the back of the reports contained the deputies narrative, suspect info and other data that just wasn't for public consumption. The AG agreed, and they were provided only the front of the report.

I have seen instances locally of reporters slanting a story with which I was familiar, and it made my skin crawl. It's scary as hell the power that the press has. Necessary I suppose, but I long for the days when every movie or TV show about reporters stressed "Check your sources" and "Make sure you've got the facts". Always thought that was real life. Oh well.

IrishCop,

it has been my long experience that the press routinely LIES., as scandals (whether true or "invented") increase "market share", sell subscriptions & sell advertizing.

just four examples:

1. when my late wife died in 1983, i was accused in "a local publication" of "possible complicity in" her death from acute leukemia, as her relatives believed, despite all medical evidence to the contrary, that i didn't "do enough" to keep her from dying! - in their opinion, 2 bone marrow transplants, whole body x-ray therapy & 4 rounds of chemo just wasn't enough!
(you cannot "catch" leukemia! - it's NOT like chicken pox.)

2. a longtime army buddy, during RVN, was accused of war crimes, that allegedly had been committed, AFTER he had been KIA near Firebase Zebra. - when the national TV network received a certified copy of the death certificate (several months later), they then accused him of additional war crimes that happened over a year after his death.
(the TV company couldn't be successfully sued because you cannot libel or slander the dead!)

3. an elementary school teacher in an AR county was accused of child abuse/neglect/molestation, when she had NO children by birth, marriage or adoption. - "the media" could have found that FACT out by simply asking her neighbors, the sheriff or many other people in the area.
she lost her job/home, was divorced by her husband, had to take back her maiden name & moved out of state to stop "being hassled" by ignorant people.
(the actual molester was another woman, with a similar name.)
Cynthia M____________ never received an apology or anything else from her accusers & you cannot successfully sue a "media outlet", unless you can PROVE that they knew that their accusation were known to be false PRIOR to the publication date AND that the accusers of the press "acted with reckless disregard for the truth". - a simple "mistake of fact", that destroys your reputation, isn't enough to prevail at law!

4. Richard Jewell's repuation was utterly destroyed by the national press after they "created a scandal" (based on nothing more than common gossip) that accused Jewell of "being somehow possibly involved in" bombing the Atlanta Olympic Games. - he was the security guard who discovered the bombs & reported the incident to the police!
until his death, Jewell never was able to secure full-time employment & ended up on "public assistance".

and you wonder why i believe that the press are a "nest of vipers"?

just my opinion, sw

I had no idea that Jewell was dead. I had thought the eventual reveal of a different perpetrator combined with his kegitimate conduct which saved lives in the Olympic Park Bombing would have ended the initial rumors. Sad that was not the case, felt he was a good guy who did his duty right.

DavidE,

you must wake up & smell the coffee: the main-SLIME media LIES & does NOT care who they injure as long as they make $$$$$$$$$$$ out of telling their KNOWING LIES.
(based on my personal knowledge of their patent DISHONESTY, i believe NOTHING that they claim absent DOCUMENTED facts.)

furthermore, when they are exposed as having LIED about one thing, instead of apologizing to those that they injured, they make other equally false accusations.
the media LIARS are perfectly aware that MOST people will believe the worst about anyone, whom they don't know, if the lies are endlessly repeated AND that "accusers" can make more accusations than anyone has the time, money or energy to disprove.

a final comment: please remember,
1. the Twana Brawley "rape scandal" = the local medical examiner stated, that in her professional opinion, that Ms Brawley had NOT been raped on the date/time alleged NOR had she had sexual intercourse with anybody for at least a week.
and
2. the Duke University "Sex Scandal", which did NOT happen at all. - the detectives of the NCSP & the state's attorney's office confirmed that the "scandal" was not only factless but that the "news media" knew, prior to their reports/broadcasts, that the alleged "unlawful sexual contact" had not occurred.

yours, sw

Irish, my PD had a pretty toxic relationship with the local fish wrapper and the standing order was not to talk to them at all. The TV folks were generally well behaved and there were a couple I'd talk to on background but the rule was no on-camera stuff.

Long before I went to work there was one reporter who covered the cop shop and always gave a fair deal but when he moved on things went down hill and four chiefs later they are still not rosy.
