About that Fenway Photo-Op…

I'm not sure who might have watched ESPN last evening, but I'd like to think that the soon-to-be-anointed John F. Kerry's unannounced ceremonial first pitch at Boston's Fenway Park before the Yankees-Red Sox game on national TV, will be a metaphor for his Presidential Campaign: it couldn't q-u-i-t-e make it to home plate.

I am reminded of the final episode of this past season's The West Wing in which, in the middle of an international crisis involving the Middle East assassination-by-terrorist-bombing of some visiting White House and Congressional personnel, President Bartlett's staff was working feverishly at preparing their man to make the first pitch at Camden Yards in Bal'more, knowing that his athletic ability was abysmal. The show adroitly balanced high drama and hilarity. I recommend it in next month's inevitable re-run.

May Kerry's Fenway photo-op do for him what Dukakis' arrival in an M1 Abrams tank did for him in 1988.

Of course, in all fairness, Dubya, given a similar opportunity in Arlington, Texas, would probably fling the ball up the third base line and bean a photographer, which would be an appropriate metaphor for some of our bombing attacks in Iraq!

Actually, there are a few in the media that I would like to see that happen too! :D

The one taken at the Cape yesterday is a contenda too...
The Man Has An Arm!

To deanspeir,
Mr. president DOES have an arm! I think it was last year. Or maybe on the anniversary of 9/11, I don't remember exactly. But the President was announced and he came out to a thunderous applause and threw out the first pitch at a Texas Ranger game. It wasn't a fastball, but he looked like he knew what he was doing and fired one right at home plate! The catcher barely had to move to snag it!
Dean's West Wing comparison is spot on. It was one of the best ever episodes and the thought of playing catch in the hallowed halls on Pennsylvania Ave. with the odd priceless antique vase biting the dust was real genius.

Another Kerry photo that struck me as odd was him decked out in hockey gear. No disrespect to hockey players anywhere, but I wonder if that image is "presidential". Also wonder if that was the best use of his time given the amount it takes to dress.

Riding in tanks and waving a .45 has already been taken; Kerry needed to come up with something.

You may perhaps note upon closer inspection, that Moderator LIProGun has called that fact to my, and everyone else's, attention with his well-researched links to citations of our President's superior (to that of Kerry) prowess with a hardball.

But then again, so has landing on a carrier in a flight suit and parading around in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

Kerry was coming off of recent shoulder surgery. The man is actually a pretty decent athlete.

Why would he risk his recovery for a lousy photo-op in which he would look bad?
