UPDATE: 8-year-old in critical condition, 9-year-old shooter in juvenile detention - Breaking News, Local News, Local Weather, Local Sports

I believe I heard somewhere else that it was a USP but don't have a link to that effect so it may be fuzzy.

Sadly it seems that hard drops are still an issue with pistols. Awful stuff.
Also a warning to take care with storing guns around kids.

No, Washington doesn't have such a law. One of the state legsilators is talking about enacting one now that this has happened. Our paper said it may be a tough sell. Evidently the gun belonged to his mother who has a history of meth use.

The Meth use thing explains a lot. TV reports were saying the kid's intent was to run away from home and he figured he would take a gun for protection. Given that environment, it's easier to see how he came to those conclusions. Now he's basically screwed though the worst is the kid who got shot. Disaster all around.
