You oughta see the Cerda de Vaca family of Juarez, Mexico make tiles by hand with essentially the same "technology", except that they "press" their tiles with a car-jack.
Years ago, the family made our 12x12 inch tiles for the kitchen & 2 bathroom floors for 1 buck each. - Each takes about 20 minutes.
