Doesn't this have something to do with banning "handgun ammo" that is, uh, "armor piercing?" M855 does have that "pentrator insert" (which sounds "sorta" AP if not pornographic [but I shan't go there]) which I know does not make it AP. I believe the BATFE boobs are hanging their hat on an old, innacurate description, that has to do with pistols, and the fact that some companies are now making AR style pistols (as well as the Sig 556 pistol) may be what is prompting this unConstitutional nuttery.

That's how I understand it Tommy. If I had a conspiratorial bent, I'd think that they designated those AR pistols with the short arm brace "stocks" as handguns just so they could sneak this in.

Not that the government would ever do a thing like that...

Yeah, I thought they'd try this about 25 years ago, but I knew we'd cross this bridge at some point. The core is to improve penetration, but it doesn't make it AP...they have an AP round.
