A South Carolina teenager was charged with involuntary manslaughter after police say she fired a shot at a friend in a bulletproof vest, but missed the Kevlar and struck him in the heart.

Anderson County Sheriff's Lt. Shelia Cole said Blake Wardell, 26, found an old flak jacket early Wednesday morning in Greenville, put it on and asked 18-year-old Taylor Kelly to shoot him.

Kelly fired a single round from a small-caliber handgun at the vest, but just missed. Authorities say the bullet went through the lining and into Wardell's heart.

Spwenger, the article in MailOnline said...

"The victim's family told deputies that Wardell had a history of mental illness. He is survived by his father, sister and girlfriend of less than two weeks."

So, HE didn't reproduce...'course she can, I suppose. :)

Unfortunately being stupid is legal in every state.

The crime is involuntary manslaughter because there was no intent or malice. The DA should present the evidence to a grand jury which could either indict or not. If they do then there would either be a trial or plea bargain which could be anything from not guilty from a sympathetic jury to probation or short sentence.

To All:

This reminds me of the Darwin Award winner who recently here decided to find how long a person could stand (just over the top of a hill) out in the roadway on Interstate Hwy 35N, without getting hit by a vehicle.
(According to his GF, the answer was about 3 minutes.)

According to the BCSD, the deceased was 23YO.

yours, sw
