In some ways that reminds me of a good idea allegedly fielded around the time of Korea. I got this from a buddy at APG. They were proposing a replacement for the 1911. It was going to fire the .30 US Carbine round, weigh less than 2 lbs and have a muzzle velocity the ammo didn't achieve in the carbine. Details are fuzzy after 50 years, but IIRC, it was also gonna be select fire.
RFP sounds kinda like a second generation Land Warrior type thingie as envisioned by someone with no grasp of interior ballistics or the realities of operating in less than a clean room environment.
