According to the following article, following a decision by the Dick's Sporting Goods chain to stop selling semi-automatic rifles (I have not seen such a rifle in my local Dick's store for some time, though it is in New Jersey - ed) the only major Sporting Goods chain to sell such rifles is now Bass Pro Shops, along with their recently purchased subsidiary company, Cabela's.

It is worth remembering that Bass and Cabela's are standing firm.

I have the feeling it's no philosophical issue with Bass Pro, it's possible loss of income stream-and the possibility that they might pick up an extra shekel or shilling. I stopped in at the local one after the LGS was out of Federal & WW SP primers in the hopes BP might have them. They did, but only in trays (not boxes) and at a price I could beat even after paying hazmat fees. As the say locally, they're right proud of their inventory.

I hope they don't screw up Cabela's, but don'e have much faith.

Academy is still selling Modern Sporting Rifles and shotguns. However, the on line weekly special removed the last couple of pages showing weapons and ammo. The one in the store is complete.

The question about the media blitz is a good one, Sir. Here is a story on shops that keep selling Armalites and the like, with obligatory pull quotes putting down purchasers, but a surprisingly balanced and vitriol-free look at the business equations involved:

I'd be a lot more willing to go to Bass if they would get rid of that silly long, winding drive. Here in Alabama, a 'woods experience' is just a few minutes away...

I do most of my gun/ammo shopping at Academy.

I spoke with a former Academy employee recently, and he said that Academy was taking down (but still selling) semi-auto rifles because anti's were coming into stores and starting trouble.

Never heard of that happening up here in Morgan County. I didn't even think there were that many ....er, "liberals" in Alabama.
Can't we trebuchet them all north of the Mason Dixon Line?:twisted:

shep854,

TRUE, especially when the MORONS have 'the mainstream press", that is more interested in "selling soap" & "building market share" than they are about FACTS behind them.

I don't believe that much of the press even cares about money or ratings anymore. A lot of it is just about propaganda at this point.

The bitter irony is that quite a few journalists have been beaten up by "progressives" at rallies and marches, who call them tools of the system (One would think that trying to woo the press would be the point of the marches) but one does not hear of this much on the news.

Hardy-har-har-har...:p :eek::cool:;)
Shep, seriously, did I ever tell the story about my flatulence making an entire office portable at my alma mater uninhabitable for three days? (Granted, that was several months of exhaust-gas output harvested, concentrated and let go all-at-once, but...)

"No s***, there I was, a Mason jar in one hand and the Chancellor of my college handing off a Taco Hell 12-pack with extra hot-sauce into the other..."

Sportsmans Warehouse gets my Gun & Ammo money, now that Cabela's no longer givers a veterans discount on the hardware side of the store. I stopped shopping there because of their new policy.

Are there any exclusions to what I can purchase using my military discount?
