Ok Kevin, I've heard a lot of *&*&^% from you but I NEVER thought you'd stoop so low as to insult bowling balls by comparing them to the dimwit V.P.
;)

Seriously though I cannot sympathize with anyone who fires a gun off into the air in a residential area. Between this, the Zimmerman/Martin thing, and various other ... "stuff" ... we seem to be amidst an epidemic of STUPID in America.

Sir, you insult "stupid" people everywhere with your comparison with our VP. Luckily, they are too stupid to take any retribution against you because they are unaware they've been insulted. :-?

As I understand it Al has "open carry" now, but only because there is no law stating you can't OC. A lot of confusion exists, IMHO, because OC people have been in encounters with LEOs who don't know this and it has caused some confusion, so it was agreed to pass this law to clarify matters.
Perhaps Irishcop can chime in if I am off base in the above; he probably knows the law a lot better than I.

That was true but the recent (Aug. '13 IIRC) law has rectified the matter by explicitly stating OC is legal.

Absolutely correct. Open Carry is legal in Alabama IAW an act that became law 1 Aug 2013.

It does place some restrictions...

You may not open carry on private property (to include businesses) where it is expressly prohibited by the owners and so posted.

Once you enter a vehicle, the weapon becomes concealed as a matter of law and the carrier must either have a permit, or secure the weapon and ammunition separately.

Oregon isn't an open-carry state but they will give you a concealed permit for $35 for two years fairly easily. Given that the average age on the coast is 60-65 most don't take advantage of that. Being retired L/E, my own state will not issue me one without a yearly re-qual from my department and it's good ONLY in their jurisdiction. Mine here in Oregon is good in 7 states. Needless to say, I stay out of Kalifornia unless absolutely necessary and take my chances.

Just watch those multi-state license acceptance laws. SOME require you be a resident of the State of Issue. Check the State website. That being said is there a blog somewhere giving state gun law locations?

Ratfink, I also live in Oregon I have a Utah permit good in 32 states as well as my Oregon license. There are classes advertised in the paper all the time. It was painless to get the Utah permit. I went to the class got photographed and fingerprinted right after by the instructor and 60 days later the permit was in my mailbox.
