Charlie sent me that Walt, and I find it very on-target. Authoritarian cockpit culture was gradually discouraged in this country starting in the late eighties or early nineties, and the result has been nothing short of remarkable. Back in those days I was never shy about telling a captain he was about to do something stupid, but many first officers were. (Of course, tact goes a long way, and you'd better be right.)

There's a news report out there and I've watched the clip - apparently the station got hoaxed. I'd post the link, but the first part involves a child...

KTVU has listed the names of the pilots involved:

Captain Sum Ting Wong

Ho Lee Fuk

Bang Ding Ow

And later an apology...

About 15 minutes later the station corrected its mistake, but claimed an NTSB official had confirmed the names.

Earlier in the newscast we gave some names of pilots involved in the Asiana Airlines crash. These names were not accurate despite an NTSB official in Washington confirming them late this morning. We apologize for this error.

Obviously NTSB is grossly overstaffed if they have nothing to do but spread racist jokes, and confirm them.
I'm sending an email to my congresscretin demanding a 50% cut in NTSB staff.
