This film outlines the ingenious method Republic Aviation and the Army Air Corps came up with to deliver brand new P-47's to front line units in a pair of crates, which then become the jigs for the assembly. It's ingenious.

Does anyone have a reference or remember the old "20th Century" show on CBS TV? They talked a lot about WW2 and mentioned at the end of the war in Europe some USAAF P-47s removed half their MGs to allow a greater ammo load and give them more time of fire on ground targets.
