phantom4570,

I suspected as much. - The largest rattler that i've ever seen was a couple of inches under 8 feet & was captured alive near Humble,TX.
(Unless he has died of old age, "Ole Bob" resides at one the biology labs at TAMU.)

phantom4570.

FYI, Rattle-tail made into chickenfried-snake, with home-fried potatos, homemade biscuits and cream gravy is truly hard to beat!
(Head & shoulders over chicken-fried steak, imVho.)

Ask me to tell you sometime about "The Great Ft Stockton Rattlesnake Feed of 1986".
(It started out to be a planned "cook-out for 5" & ended up feeding about 10x that number.)

Tommy Gunn,

NOPE. It tastes just like rattlesnake. - people, who think that it tastes like chicken, have not eaten either one.

yours, sw
I haven't had rattler, but I would be interested in trying it should I ever be in a place where it's available. Don't know if I would like it .... but I am curious.
I was sorta joking about the "tastes like chicken" thing.....
but......
When I was possibly ten our so years old my family was traveling and we were somewhere on the east coast midway between Connecticut & Alabama at a restaurant. On the menu was "hossenfeffer" which I was told was rabbit. Out of curiosity I ordered it, somewhat surprising my parents who feared I wouldn't like it. But it was actually pretty good.
And dang it.... it tasted like chicken!!!

Well, not exactly....but I think I did surprise my parents by eating it and liking it.

TommyGunn,

Actually, rattlesnake is about 30.oo a pound at the markets that sell it, so unless I can catch it I don't eat it.
(It's GOOD but NOT that good.)

It has a texture a lot like channel catfish.

Also, I used to buy a lot of hossenfeffer in BRD when i was stationed there. - That is good, too.
