Harmon Rabb landed a C-130 on an aircraft carrier in an episode of "JAG" back when the show was on.

BTW--this page loaded funny on my computer. There is a statement between the OP and the first response, "I am impressed" along with the quote button and the report exclamation point that are usually at the bottom of the post. Somethin' odd is about....

I have always loved the C-130. Flew as a Space A passenger on one a couple of times when I was active duty. Not built for comfort, but I was told the damned thing could stay in the air on one engine if it had to...that was comfort enough. :)

I just can't imagine even attempting a landing on a carrier...or a take off. But I seem to remember the USAF using JATO assists for short take offs way back in the day...don't know how successful they were, but I sure never saw one personally.

That brought back a flood of memories...worked the flight deck of the USS Constellation CV64...we never had a C130. Our prop job was the C1A, small light cargo/personnel transport craft. That job was even more scary than my years in L/E. It was certainly a orchestrated circus on the deck...those two pilots had to have nerves of steel to even attempt that. Thanks for sharing that Phantom...:D

They did practice on a runway to test options. There was an article years back in some magazine, but I don't remember which one.

JATO bottles are impossible to make anymore, because of pollution. The standards required to make a new equivalent eco-friendly and human flight safe forbid them.

Supposedly a JATO bottle was a 5" Rocket without the warhead and with added mounting points.

I never flew in a C-130 where the Pilot wasn't a member of the Frustrated Fighter Pilot's Association (TM). Forget the roller coaster!

Who notes the USAF is straining its cargo aircraft capability and chartering foreign sources.
