So I went to our brand new Cabela's the other day. in their gun library, which seems to be the place where they display what they consider to be collectible guns, I found a really nice German WWII mauser at a price I could live with. I had my C&R license as well as the ATF list of C&Rs with me. When it came to the woman who did the paper work, I tried my best to explain how a C&R license works, showing her the book etc. She didn't have a clue, so she called her manager on the phone and tried to tell him what was going on. He told her I would have to pay the 10.00 fee, an Oregon thing, and do the 4473 and go through a background check. I proceeded to lose my cool, got all of my papers back and went home without the rifle. I know a lot of dealers no know nothing about the C&R, but I expected more from a national company. I later sent an email to the gun people at their national headquarters. They never heard of such a license either.

Next time, just tell them that it's an FFL, and let it go at that.
I'm sure that they can get their minds around someone's FFL, since they have one themselves.

It is, after all, an FFL—just a specialized one, that's all.

Cabelas has their own set of rules. I was at one of their stores and wanted to purchase a rifle. I filled out the paperwork and the sales guy looked at it and said he could not sell the rifle to me because they would only sell to an adjoining state.
I did not want to pay shipping ... stubborn... but they shipped the rifle to another store that is neighboring my state and I happened to be in the area the following week.
