I have two Caniks. I believe they represent one of the best values going in 9mm semi-autos. I honestly can't find much to dislike about either one.

The TP9SFx comes pre-milled for an optic. Canik provides three inserts, each of which is pre-drilled with the screw pattern of a number of popular red dots. You just put the appropriate insert in the milled slot, attach your optic, and go to town. The gun is dead accurate, totally reliable, easy to grip, and fun to shoot.

WaltGraham,

Unsophisticated hillbilly that I am, I still when I hear The William Tell Overture, think of The Lone Ranger.

Similarly, when I saw, "P38", my first though was "GI can opener".

csmkersh,

Fwiw, the Lockheed "Forked-tail Devil" was my Dad's favorite of all the AAC planes of WWII.

The reason that I made the comment about The Lone Ranger & GI can-openers is that I cannot hit a [email protected]#$%! thing with the P38 pistol. = In one place OCONUS that I was stationed long ago, the "allied force" issued me a brand new P38 & after a week on the range & W/O much improving my shooting with the Walther, I returned it to the National Armory & drew a pair of BHP to replace it. = The Armory had a great many S&W Model 10 revolvers & BHPs of the 1950-60s era.
(I feel the same way about the Luger P08. = Pretty as it is, I don't shoot it well.)

Note: I ended up carrying a Ithaca riot-gun & the BHPs all the time "way down yonder". = Within a few months, most all of our staff was carrying more than one handgun/long-gun. - One advisor was packing a British Sterling & a pair of BHP.

Btw, in 1970-73 when I was stationed in K-town, I met & made friends with the father of my landlady, who was a "sergeant pilot" & flew the Feisler Storch in WWII.
(He said that he made over 100 trips into Stalingrad, delivering people, "things" & messages.)
Karl too was issued a Luger by the Luftwaffe & turned it back in to supply for a P35. = He also opined that: IF you want to "impress people" & carry it as a "badge of office:, get a Luger. Otoh, IF you need a fighting pistol, get a PPK or a Hi-Power.

Growing up during WWII, I fell in love with the looks of the P08/Luger. Many years later a friend disassembled his P08 but put it aside. Next morning he couldn't remember how to put it back together and asked me to. That cured me of wanting the gun as I saw how easily it could wear to the point of either not firing or firing when you weren't expecting it to go bang. BHPs just don't fit my hand so I'll stay with SAAs or 1911s for wet work.
