That's really pretty interesting. I always knew that dogs see black and white and in 2 dimensions only...nose is their primary sensory organ and figured cats had great eyesight. Seeing that they can be fooled by an optical illusion designed by man for man...well, that's just plain cool.
Cats see in limited color and more into the ultraviolet. Their eyesight is good, but is more geared toward detecting motion than the human visual system is.
I'm not sure that cat's reaction proves it's being fooled by an illusion .... it's possible, but it remains only one possibility.
Most higher mammals can see some limited colors despite old beliefs that they could see only in B&W....or, you could say their color sensitivity is two-toned...but not like watching old B&W TV. It's more complex.
