Hi. I found a Century L1A1 made in Canada at the local gun shop. Its been sitting on the shelf for the last few months for $900. Its got a bipod, and a scope installed. I looked at it a time or two, and I like it, but don't know enough about them. I'm considering selling off my Bushmaster A2 20" HBAR in favor of something in the .308 variety. I've heard the canadian built L1A1's are pretty good rifles. Is there anyone with some experience on these things? What should I look out for? Are these typically decently accurate? Thanks!

If it is built on a non "Gear Logo" Imbel receiver then IMO $750 is a fair price.
It will almost certainly use "metric" rather then "inch" magazines - look in the front of the mag well: An elongated rectangular slot is "inch" & a semi elliptical slot is metric.

Some of the early Century guns used Imbel non-gear logo receivers. All of the ones I have seen have been metric.

that's got to be something else- canadian fns are all ENGLISH pattern, and didn't have a bipod- the scope is a simple matter or replacing the body cover, maybe assembled in canada ? i know, having toted one for years in the cf- only the c2 squad auto had the bipod, and a larger dial sight- the c1 had a dial up to 600, that would fold flat for transport

pos.just a c1 with a heavy barrel , bipod, and different rear sight- still climbed like you know what- the 60 was a FAR better weapon- 3 shot bursts only- and i would have liked to put a hinged buttplate on it and a proper forearm, but it wasn't my weapon

True, Canadian military FALs are inch pattern guns. But the gun Dex refers to was probably built by Century using inch pattern parts on an Imbel receiver. Could be a Canadian thing to mark it "Made in Canada" on the right lower portion of the mag well.

It's isn't an L1A1 (that's British) it's an FNC1 and semi automatic. If the bipod is part of the handguards then it should be an FNC2 and will be full auto or a convert.

It will have been made at Longbranch, Ontario.

t'weren't only you, mate-back then EVERYBODY was trained on all basic shoulder fired; and most of us went through "heavy weapons " trade right after basic- less'n you were a meat-head or something

The rifle in question is neither; it's a Century built rifle that could have used parts from any FAL variant, though more than a few of those put together in Canada used British L1A1 donor kits.
AFAIK Century's angry beavers never got their hands on the Canadian C1's when they were surplused.
