concealed carry of a .1911

Hello all, another newbie question. I gather that most of you under most circumstances prefer a 1911 type .45 for your PDW. I shot a Springfield today at a local range. It was a Milspec accept in stainless with adjustable sites. It was nice but how do you conceal something like that? I'm a pretty big guy but I have been confined to a wheelchair for the last 20 some years, so Obviously, I am almost always in a sitting position. I have shot a .38 snubbie and they practically dissapear when concealing, but many people find the calibre unsattisfactory for self defense.
Does anyone have any experience as or with a wheelchair bound shooter? Any comments would be appreciated as always.

Not for 1911 anymore...

As for any 1911, you should be able to get a quality holster for your FEG-HP as well.

Anyway, I'd suggest you check a cross-draw holster like the Mitch Rosen's Counter Carjacking Rig (CCR). It's specifically built to be worn while seating.

Come to think about it, you could also use one of those quick-open fanny packs just laying merrily on your lap where you can also pack your wallet, checkbook or cell phone. It would look fairly innocent.

I have met several shooters (including IPSC competitors) in wheelchairs. Most of them went cross draw. One had his chair rigged to bolt on a strong side (exposed) for competition. This could be a good place for kydex holsters.

How in the heck do them compete from wheelchairs? (really, punching paper can get pretty boring!)

IPSC/USPSA rules allow for a penalty to be assesed if the shooter cannot comply with the course design - but I've only seen that happen at really big matches. We are happy to see you come out and shoot with us, and have fun.
Go to USPSA.org, and use the 'club finder' to locate your nearest club. Bring your handgun and holster to your first match. It's hard for a visitor to come to our matches and not get "assisted" into trying a stage.
You may not be the match winner, but I'm sure you'll have fun. And you'll meet some of the finest like minded people on the planet!

(P.S., I'm a Charter Life member, and this is my 20th year as a Rangemaster. It's addictive!)

Edited to add: I just jumped over to USPSA.org, and found 2 clubs in DE. Give the contact folks a call and find out when their next match is.
