Can anyone tell me where the phrase "sporting purposes" is in the Constitution?

My take: There is a strong suggestion of a backroom deal to lessen F Troop's legislation by opinion letters and rule changes. I see it in the context that some RKBA leaders feel more comfortable dealing with ineptness and limited jurisdiction with F Troop than letting its current functions get split between FBI - on the enforcement side - and Treasury - on the regulation side. The alleged deal would seemingly retain some credibility for F Troop, hence help preserve its existence.

If they treated the enumerated RKBA the way they treat the right to abortion, which was divined from the emanations and penumbras of the Bill of Rights, they'd supply us with guns and ammo.

And it'd be The Good Stuff at that, full MilSpec Rock-and-Roll Capable.

Hell, if I'm elected President every American high-school student goes to Basic Training right after high-school and upon completion gets a nontransferable-except-by-inheritance M14 or M16 and Fat Fifty can full of loaded magazines for it as a graduation present from the taxpayers.

Oh, commit acrime with your taxpayer-furnished battle-rifle and it's an automatic Federal crime for "misuse of .GOV property", the idea being that while you can modify it as you see fit for your needs, it's DOD property On Loan to you with the expectation that if the ChiComs try to pull a Normandy on us you grab your rifle and go running for the beach.

After that first can, you gotta buy your own ammo, though... and if you break it and want another, it's out of YOUR pocket.

Diamondback; All,

Fyi, I've seriously suggested on other forums that each honorably discharged/retired veteran should be GIVEN his/her choice of handgun/rifle/shotgun (with all the ammo that they choose to carry in hand) as "a gift from a grateful nation for their service to America". upon separation. = After a few years of arming former GIs like that, NO enemy, foreign or domestic, would be foolish enough to attack us and/or subvert our RIGHTS.

yours, sw

Does that include the gangbangers, dopers, illegal aliens, etc?

Isn't that similar to what the Swiss do?

Snake, that's kind of a downside risk... so that'd be a detail to flesh out about "Fail To Complete on Grounds of Moral Turpitude and No Toy For You". Also the big nasty teeth about commiting a crime with your taxpayer-provided weapon... which I'm thinking if it comes out of Army/Navy/etc budget means Court Martial.

Bearcat, that's also part of my thinking. Not a draft or mandatory Reserve time, but just laying the foundations so that *if* we need to mobilize in a hurry it won't take as long to get the fresh meat up-to-speed. SW's proposal is fairly similar to Swiss and Israeli models, just that after you complete your Active time you stay in Reserve up into your 50's with a few mandatory callups a year IIRC.

As I Recall...

In the event that my idea ever becomes law, make mine a TRW-built M-14E2, as modified by an AMU.
...Unless they are assigned a crew-served weapon, most Swiss reservists are now issued the 5.56mm SIG SG 540. When they reach the age at which their reserve status is terminated, they may keep the rifle but must have it rendered semi-auto-only.

spwenger,

Unless SZ laws have changed in the last 2 years, SOME Cantons require "SA modifications" for retired militia members & some Cantons do NOT. =====> I guess we'd call that "local option".
(I have a dear friend who is a retired BG in the SZ army, as my source on SZ gun laws.)

Personally, I wouldn't care if my "issued" M-14E2 was SA or FA. = I just lust after one.
(I spent considerable time firing the M-14 & FA isn't "controllable" for most SM & it gets "uncomfortably HOT" quickly in "burst fire".)

spwenger,

SORRY. = DUMB-bunny errors like that come from talking to my lady, trying to answer questions from the daughter (visiting us today) & typing at the same time.
