Friend selling a S.A. M1-A,ser#4,xxx.Excellent bore and finish.TRW bolt and barrel He's asking 1100$. I've heard rumors about early S.A. recievers not having proper heat treatment or improper specs.Any opinions or help?Is that a fair price? Thanks in advance. John

Ted Brown reports that SOME M1A receivers under serial number 020XXX have surface hardness not as high as it should be. Check the elevation serrations. If they are worn out then the receiver is most likely too soft. The receiver can be heat treated and the hardness brought back up to specification.
