I always wondered what made the Sopwith Camel so much more powerful than the rest of the field back in the day. Last year I finally saw one in a museum…Now I get it. The fuselage is a good 50% larger in diameter than the competition…to accommodate an engine that was significantly bigger and more powerful.

The Camel was the classic "smallest possible airframe behind the biggest engine available.
This made it a stone b*tch to fly, but d pilot.eadly in the hands of an experienced
