I have a Winchester stock. Aside from the proof "P", it has the cartouche "AA" over "AS" where one would normally find a cartouche like "EmcF" or others. Anyone ever seen this before. I can't find it in the books.

Thanks for the help.

with other US guns, like the 03, AA would be augusta arsenal. the AS is what i'm having a hard time finding.

of course this is assuming the marks are authorized from the arsenal. what is somebody had a stamp set and stamped their own initials? some marks we may never know.

fubar, I agree. It is likely that initials not of the arsenals are possibly those of individual arsenal inspectors, often to the side.

AA AS

I got one on a SG cmp rifle last year. Heavily sanded but clearly stamped AS over AA. Had paper wraping pieces stuck to it. Has deep red color. Had dried cosmo-linseed oil on it. Only came off with rubbing alchohol?!!
