Hello folks,
I did a little trading with my local dealer for a new FN Five Seven(I was intrigued with the round) And wondered if anyone had any experience with these?I really like the workmanship, fit and finish of the pistol,Now I will just have to get used to all of this plastic! Thanks for any input or info.

I brought one of my 5.7 pistols to GunStock in NC and everyone who shot/handled it seemed to like it. The only negative comment made was about the trigger and the way it pulls/releases.

I have not done any ransom rest type testing, but I have found it to be accurate enough free hand at 10+ yards. I have on my counter here at work a half dollar I shot at that distance and I pulled another Lee Harvey Oswald.

I have stocked up on ammo because there is always the possiblitity of the BATFE ruling that the 5.7 ammo is armor piercing and ala what they did with the steel core/ap 7.62x39 rounds after Olympic Arms released an AR15 pistol they could ban the importation/sale of it.

The FN 5.7 is my favorite pistol that I've shot thus far. Though it was my first choice of pistols, I settled for an XD 40 tactical due to the cost of ammo just wasn't practical for me at this time. The price is dropping steadily though, so it will probably be my next purchase. As Steve K said, they are a lot of fun to shoot.

Thanks alot for all the info and comments! Now I really look forward to shooting it in the very near future. Do you think any of the other ammunition types made by FN(FMJ,Tracer) will become available anytime soon?

I too own a Five Seven :D and is one of my favorite pistols...I carry mine on diamond escorts in a blade-tech IWB, and have done various tests on body armor ect.
Here are a few random shots

would a 5.7 yaw in say a forearm? yes...at 2-3 inches of flesh it yaws/tumbles
what is this pic?...a 20oz plastic soda bottle that was half filled with water.....full yaw in 3inches.....you can see the entry hole through the bullet shaped exit.

we were pleasently surprized after all the "if you can't get AP its of no use...its neutered" when we set up a new condition L2 22 layer vest panel in front of 1800 pages of dry phone book and fired the first 5 rounds , this is what we saw when we checked the target(Holy smokes!)....it made this vest into a "mud flap"(keeps you from spashing on your co workers) nothing neutered about it.

The right bullt in 357 Sig, 9x23, 9x25, 38 Casull

you can get AP performance, and also have some real tissue destruction, and practice with low cost bullets, and have a much better gun to shoot it from. :) All it takes is to use the 95 gr lrn 380 bullet mold, and "non-lead" solder as the casting-alloy. It drops from the mold at about 70 grs. Depending on the barrel length and whether or not you hollowbase it, you are talking 2000-2400 fps.

hmmm make that pointy and you have reinvented the french THV line of AP pistol rounds from the 1970's :D
And as far as the so called "better" pistol itself...thats not all that clear cut.....as it is just as well built and reliable as anything else of the current crop of half polymer service guns. Mine has over two thousands rounds through it without a single malfunction.
But heck, I only have 19 other service pistols to take out of the gunsafe and go range with it. Its not the do all end all of pistols...and neither is any other single caliber. and around the Dallas /Ft. worth area I can get 5.7 and .357sig off the shelf...but 9x23 and 9x25 as well as 38 casull (I do buy .454 casull) is a bit hard to find if you arent a midway customer and on first name basis with the UPS driver because of it. Besides that , Im past wanting to breath lead fumes and spatter myself with hot metal while home smelting.....or crapping money on a lathe to turn down old carbide drill bits into .224 projectiles to stuff in sabots for 7.62x25 etc. but you can :D
