Memo To Greta.........
The poll was on the site complements of Greta Van Susteren, host of the Fox program "On The Record."
I sent her the following e-mail:
Greta:
Your Assault Weapons Ban Survey is Fatally Flawed.
The choice "I defer to what police say on this" is an invalid choice.
The reason this choice is invalid is because you don't know what "the police" say! There is no way, other than a national plebiscite of all sworn law enforcement officers to really determine the "police view."
This is amply demonstrated by the recent passage of Public Law 108-277, the Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act of 2004.
This act, which enables qualified active-duty and qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms throughout the United States "notwithstanding any state or local law to the contrary" was opposed by police administrators, such as members of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, but was supported by the rank and file, such as members of the Law Enforcement Alliance of America. So, what was the "police position?"
I suggest you scratch this fatally flawed survey and either start over without the "whatever the police say" option or just drop it altogether.
