I sometimes see on some posts that some folks M1's have the correct gas cylinder plug. ( Manufacturer correct )
My question is how do you tell who's is who's?
I have a couple of SA's and HRA's and they all look alike to me. Can you tell me what to look for to ID these parts?

I have three Garands, two CMP SGs, one new Beretta. The Beretta is stamped BM59, with an allen wrench fit, one SG with an IHC cross slot, one with an HRA poppet style cross slot. The CMP rifles gas plugs are stamped with the manufacture mark.

Some have the rifle manufacturer on it, like HRA or WRA. But, after the war, subcontractors built some of these. So you probably need to get a reference book if you are dealing with one with strange initials to know who used them, and at what time.

Do you have to remove the plug to locate these stamps or markings or are the visible when assembled?
