A good landing is one you can walk away from.
A great landing is one where the plane can be used again.

Initially, it was planned to remove the wings and transport the airplane to a repair facility by barge, but Boeing engineers and test pilots decided to perform an engine change on site and to take off from the adjacent paved access road.[3] The 737 was flown to Moisant Field, where further maintenance work was performed. The plane was then returned to service.

Soggy levees can be your friend.

Is it just me or did the model makers/CGI folks forget to lower the flaps on the 737 image during the landing?

This was exactly the situation Sully faced. He was desperately looking for someplace flat and undeveloped; in his case it soon became apparent that the river was the only option.

I was flying the 737 at the time of this TACA incident, and one of the outcomes was that the engine manufacturer, CFM, re-designed the spinners on the engines to more efficiently route water out into the bypass airflow and away from the engine core. The original spinners were dome-shaped; the newer ones are cones.

What's almost as amazing about this story is how they got the jet out of there: they actually flew it out. With almost no fuel and fairly dry ground they were able to take off from the levee and get it to a real runway nearby. There's a film of the takeoff somewhere.
