Hello, new user here. I've been looking in anonymously for awhile and decided to finally take the plunge. Lots of interesting folks here, and the thing I like most about it is, the atmosphere here feels a lot like when you attend a large (or small) gun show. Everyone is nice, polite, respectful of others opinions, even if they don't necessarily agree with them... I like that.

That's what I like about the gun community. It's like an Amway convention or a Tea Party rally... you rarely find a-holes there, just nice people willing to put out their hand in camaraderie, if not friendship.

I should probably explain the People's Republic of... remarks. If you lived in NY or NJ and were of a particular political persuasion, you would immediately understand, but for those fortunate enough to live west of the Delaware River, our benevolent politicians (cough) fervently believe it is their duty to take care of all of us gun owners who can't be trusted to own a weapon, so they heap upon us all manner of onerous rules and regulations specifically designed to piss off anyone with more than half a brain.

For example, the last time I went to the outdoor range, (about a 45 mile trip since they are scarcer than hen's teeth) I stopped off at a convenience store and got a couple of soft drinks and used the head. According to the PRNJ Legislators, that made me a felon.

The law here says, that you must go straight to and from the range with no stops in between, and anyone caught with a weapon NOT going directly to or from the range (or gunsmith or store where you purchased a weapon) faces a mandatory sentence in the State Pen.

Don't believe me? Google the name 'Shaneen Allen.' In 2014, a mother of 2 from Philadelphia had a legal CC license in PA but when she crossed into NJ on her way to a birthday party, she was stopped by an officer. She told him she had a concealed weapon and offered to let him hold it during the stop. He arrested her and she faces 3 years in prison.

NJ doesn't recognize ANY CC licenses from ANYWHERE. And there are only 32,000 CC licenses in this state of 9 million people (excuse me, subjects), and almost all of them are either former LEOs or current armored car company employees.

To me, friends, that is the next best thing to living in a communist state. Ergo the "People's Republic" moniker.

Why don't I leave? I blame it all on a four letter word. W.I.F.E. :D

Ok, enough said. After this I'll try not to be a... you guessed it.... Big Bore. ;)

Welcome. Believe me, we all sympathize with those of you in the <cough> "progressive" <cough> states. We know it is you few who are fighting the good fight and carrying the torch for gun rights in those states, and we also know that at times it must be a lonely condition.

Just in case you (or anyone else here) hasn't heard of them, let me put in a plug for the Second Amendment Foundation. They have had remarkable successes in the courts rolling back unconstitutional anti-gun laws, especially in states like yours, and they do their good work on a shoestring budget with minimal staff. After doing my due diligence on them, I just sent them a donation for a life membership.

Consider them next time you're looking for a good cause to support:

BigBoreHK45,

WELCOME ABOARD, to what I often describe to friends as "the worldwidewierd's BEST gun site".

PITY that you're stuck in NJ with NO good way to permanently ESCAPE the leftist NITWITS, that rule that unfortunate place.
(My kid-sister-of-the-heart was born/raised/educated/lives there, works for a local government agency & even she RANTS about how UTTERLY FOOLISH that the "NJ leadership" is.)

yours, sw

Time to start working on her about looking for greener pastures than Nazi Jermany... Condolences, amigo--I can relate, being trapped by relatives here in Sodom & Gomorrah on the Sound, Soviet Socialist Kleptocracy of Washingtonistan.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard, sir! Can't think of a finer forum for discussion and civilized debate.

While my home state ain't perfect, it does have the right idea on a couple of things, firearms being one of them for the most part.
