A dept. I worked for ages ago had two overstamps. Tried to get one but somehow they found out that they could get a bunch of M-14s

Charlie Petty,

When I worked for the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office in the mid-1970s, we had a total of FOUR 21/28 Navy Overstamps in the arms room & that LOOKED brand new.
I asked about them & was told that the SMG had been transferred to the OPCSO from the Army for 2.50 each in the late 1940s.

The Department also had a number of (I don't know how many) Johnson LMG & an even two dozen M14 rifles (on "long-term loan" from DoD), as well.

Note: The SMG that the OPCSO had that I really "wanted to take home with me" was a beautifully blued commercial H&R M-50 REISING SMG with fitted hard-case & that was engraved with: Office of The Chief Special Agent, Louisiana State Patrol.
(The LASP changed its name from State Patrol in, I think I remember, JAN or FEB 1942, so that's a REALLY EARLY Reising M50.)

Fwiw, I'm told that ALL of the firearms were "unavoidably destroyed, lost or stolen" during Hurricane Katrina, when the Old Parish Prison was destroyed by the flood waters, when the levy failed.

These were in canvas cases couple with a type L drum and several stick mags. They were both minty and certainly looked new. I had one to take home for some time and the old Star tool really got a workout

Charlie Petty,

WOW! VERY NICE.

Fwiw, I had a chance to buy several TSMG & even an EX-Chicago PD police model BAR from a vendor in AZ in the early 1970s. = I was TOO DUMB to buy any of them.

Also during the "amnesty period" & had all but ONE of the "required parts" to make a .30 Carbine into a MG & didn't bother to go pay the tax. = Also, NOT smart.

Model 1927 Thompson Semi Automatic Carbine. He doesn't shoot this one but I thought it interesting enough to post.
