One day in about 1980 I was in the traffic pattern at Nellis when I did a double take: ahead of me was a two-seat A-10. Evidently the idea of a family model never took off (pun intended); I believe that was the only B model ever built.

She was the best in her day. Very effective today on a battlefield where air power really isn't being contested. Now we just need a stealthy version of the same aircraft.

I've always thought that the A-10 looked just dangerous as hell. For me, it personifies "Death from Above" (no disrespect to the Airborne folks intended).
