...who cares, much less remembers.

No, we weren't there, but we remember from school, right? We should pile up stones as a memorial, like the Israelites crossing the Jordan, so when our kids and grandkids ask, "What does that mean?", we can tell them.

.....
"On the eighteenth of April in Seventy-Five, Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers the famous day or year."
Sounding familiar yet? C'mon, gents...

"And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,---
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!"
There are more than a few of you "minuteman poets" here!

"Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere..."

I used to be able to do the whole thing from memory, but that was 60 years ago.
I could also recite:

"By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
There the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard 'round the world!"

The bridge is long gone, replaced by a mere replica; but the area looked pretty much as it did back then, when I last was there some 40 years ago.

Now a Massachusetts militia would turn out with broom sticks, real guns being strictly controlled to protect them from themselves.

Still, that'd be better than what British subjects are permitted, nowadays.

Thanks for the reminder; I'm embarrassed to have forgotten. Everybody is aware of July 4th, 1776, but we need to remember that patriots fought and died for over a year to make the 4th a reality.

to ALL,

pardon me but "the TAXatuecetts militia" would look truly CUTE in their PINK uniforms, if they fell-out today.
likely they would be led by: congress-CRITTER barney frank.

i'm reminded of a mocking cheer/JEER from my long-ago college days/DAZE: "Boston, Boston, BU. where the girls are girls & the boys are too."

LOL!
(the devil made me do it.)

yours, sw

Controversy? Did I miss a memo?
A group of Red college students wanted to change an image and remove the musket from the minuteman's hands. Shows how worthless our public schools run by the communist front teacher's union is.
