I cannot seem to find an AK that I am happy with.

I am cosidering having my gunsmith who is a master smith IMHO, build me an AK from a parts kit.

Has anyone else ever have this done?

I had a local smith who I know built me a couple.........a AK74 and a AKS-74U and he did a superb job.........I would advice you before giving him the kit, I would examine his work on AKs, like the riveting work, the fit of all parts and the finish.......to see what kind of quality work he does.

I looked at at least 3 different AKs he had built for people to get a overall view of his work.......some smiths are excellent builders of a few rifles, but not all rifles......anyway that is what I did.

the plus for having a local smith do the work, is if there is anything wrong, you aren't resorting to e-mails to have the problem corrected. paying shipping to send the rifle to him, etc....

also it's good idea to ask him if he will fix any problem due to his workmanship.......a comptent and reputable gunsmith will stand behind his work, and won't hem and haw the issue.

if you don't go with a local smith.......INVESTMENT GRADE FIREARMS (IGF) is a excellent smith, I have seen the guys work and it is excellent.......he is well establish in the AK community as being top notch, and a very reputable gunsmith. but his turn around time is pretty long, as he is busier then a one legged man in a a$$ kicking contest.

the other alternative is getting a AK that is built my VECTOR ARMS........ they do excellent work building firearms.......and is well known.
