"It's been proven to work. The actual plates will stop 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm rounds. That is exceptional protection," Blasko said. "It is the best body armor I've seen in my 20 years in the Marines. Nothing is as resilient to shrapnel or bullets."

Is that something new or different?

There have been ceramic trauma plates available from Second Chance and others for some time and I've seen the video of Rich Davis getting zapped with a 7.62 NATO- which is much more potent than the AK.

No, not new except to some military units. From what I've read, not all the troops are getting the latest vests. Like the rifles, some get older M16s while some the M4s. Some Marine units are better armed; they've got tricked out 1911 and some M14s.

There's been a flap about some of the Japanese ballistic material not being worth a dime. I think Second Chance even had a recall on some of their vests because of it...

Thanks Sam.

BTW: What's the proper form of address for a CSM?
The full title is Command Sergeant Major, the senior NCO in the Brigade. The Cdr was my boss. I'll anwer to Sgt Maj, Smadge or Top.
