Anyone see the article in the new American Rifleman on the insane prices of Colt snakes of various kinds? Amazing!

I know it's been quite a few years since I've seen a three-figure price tag on ANY kind of Diamondback, but $2400 for a once-common King Cobra? This was once considered a "low-price" gun, ferpissake!

Kevin Gibson,

AGREED 100%. Nonetheless, the "current asking prices" are just "NUTS", imVho.

Fwiw, I once had a Colt's VIPER that I paid 125.oo for & gave away to a cousin (for her birthday) , as she really, really liked it.

bearcat6,

I wonder what my 2.5 inch PYTHON in NRA Excellent would bring at auction?????
(I even have a "as new" 6" barrel for it.)

yours, satx
The 21/2"inch Pythons are very much in demand. If yours is in really good condition, I would guess $3000.00 to $3500.00. Maybe more. If you have the original box and paperwork add about $300.00 to that. Colt collectors love original boxes and paper work. This may be a low estimate.

Saw a 3" go for 6 grand, I about had kittens on the spot.
Calico or tortoise-shell??

You know what I've always been told when I ask what some old gun is worth?

"What you can get for it.":ek:
Don't feel bad.......I cannot afford those prices either.;-)

bearcat6,

NO box but NICE shape. = It's seldom been fired since I got it (MAYBE as many as 12 shots), as I intended to use it as a target gun (with the 6" barrel, that I bought at a gun-show) but never did.

It just may show up on an auction site, as I have less than 250.oo in it.

yours, sw

You can probably make a buck or two.

I never really liked the Python that much but really wish I had kept the several that passed through my hands years ago.
Wish I had kept the used 4" I bought in the early 80's for $400. I could never shoot it as well as my various S&W's. My fault or the guns, I just don't know.

I did refrain from buying a nickled Python with an 8" barrel when I was flush a about 3 years ago. $2,400 was the asking price. Just couldn't do it. Decided on an Inland M-1 carbine for $600 the shop owner had hanging on the wall.

Good choice. I think this Python bubble will burst and a lot of people will be stuck with guns they paid way too much for.

I don't know that the bubble will burst, but I think it's going to flatten out and the guns will just stop appreciating. There's no way I'd buy a Python right now. They're magnificent revolvers, but they're just not THAT good. An L frame S&W is 99% of a Python for less than half, sometimes 1/3rd the cost. Buying a Python as a shooter just doesn't make sense.

Yeah, kinda like using a clean '67 Corvette as a daily driver.

Hey, I just happen to own a 4" Python that's been welded up. Wonder what that would bring as the World's Classiest Paperweight?
