...of stopping by my favorite LGS. I really wasn’t looking for anything new. But As I was perusing through their inventory, one handgun caught my eye. It was a SIG P320C-RX. It had a SIG Brand Romeo1 reflex sight installed. I figured the price tag would be way beyond what I would want to spend, but as I adjusted my trifocals so I could read the tag, I was l pleasantly surprised. (It was about a C-note below the MSRP)

I asked the shop’s owner if I could take look at it (he knows me...he was just setting the hook), and it was love at first sweaty palm grasp.

I did the calculations in my head, figured I could get away with this without losing my wife, and took the leap. They did throw in a box of SIG 9mm ammo (hey, I’ll take what I can get), and now I’m just waiting for a chance to shoot the damned thing.

I shot a Glock with an optic a few weeks ago, Terry - game changer.

My groups went from dinner plate size with my usual carry gun to tennis ball size with the optic - and that was with the standard Glock not-as-good-as-a-capgun trigger.

I was looking at the optics ready Hellcat but I'm going to wait until I see what abomination of legislation Coonman Northam foists on Virginia before I make a purchase that I might have to sell by July.

I am going to try to send some rounds down range Friday or Saturday. The price point was just amazing for a SIG with an installed SIG branded reflex sight. The iron sights are suppressor height, so you can co-witness the iron sights and reflex. I’ll keep y’all posted. Have Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Optics are more precise... provided that you can find the red dot immediately. If any precision is required, they can be faster. Shooting from the ready, it's pretty easy to start knowing where the dot is. From the holster may take some practice. If you'll be shooting moving targets, tight targets, and at ranges of > 10 yards, they will likely make a huge difference.
I'm not sure how that translates to utility in a CCW for most of us.

There is a distinct learning curve with the reflex sight. Still haven’t got to shoot the damned thing, but I have noticed the find-the-dot issue. The real thing for me is that with the optic, I can keep both my eyes open and push my handgun straight out to eye level with a two handed grip focusing on the target and the dot just seems to be there.

Now I certainly understand that isn’t necessarily the tactic you would use in a reactive self defense situation. That might necessitate a quick draw and near contact one hand shot or nine.

But I’ve wanted to play around with a mounted optic on a handgun for a while, and the price on this SIg WITH the optic enabled me to get the chance to do that.

So we’ll see if it turns out to a plus or a minus or moot. At worst, I’ll have a Compact Sig 320 that holds 15 rounds. And has suppressor height sights if I wanna get a threaded barrel and go through the hoops of picking up one of those.
