Hey, it's Kevin Gibson.

With the new password reset, I could never get a reset, nor could I get a response from the Webmaster to reset my password under my old account, so after a couple of weeks of trying, I just made a new one.

Good to see you back, anyway.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I assume you cut-and-pasted the reset password direct from the email?

I could never get the e-mail...never even got that far.
Ah, there was your problem. I think the emails were auto-generated, though a Webmaster MIGHT be able to find the one that went out to you and re-send you the reset passwork. Maybe.

This whole thing about the new tighter passwords thing seems a bit douchewaffle-y to me. We aren't dealing in PII here, and yet they're demanding we jump through Enterprise-level security hoops... this sounds like the kind of thing new owners do to run unwanted old members off when all they really wanted was the domain name.

I told the idea stunk but Ed decided to side with them.

This outfit bought three gun forums I belong to and I think many others, I only had trouble with one forum and could not get a reply to my many emails.

Thanks for trying, Top. BC6, it's a concerning sign when a forum is acquired by those more interested in farming it for ad revenue than the actual topic of discussion... most subjects usually see the better enthusiast forums run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts--I can tell you that Camaro/Firebird forum ThirdGen.org did not change for the better when it was sold to a joint that collects car forums like kids do baseball (well, today Pokemon) cards.

That explains why I don't remember changing my password. It just mysteriously stopped working and my request for a reset went to dev=null. I'm not against stronger passwords. Forum hacking has become a cottage industry and cracking passwords using rainbow tables could give them access to a moderator or an admin. I object to not being informed beforehand and given a decent amount of time to respond.

This is the second time I had to abandon a userid here. My first one with over five thousand posts was rendered as "Guest" along with a few others when Lash's database conversion went sideways.

As has already been stated, the parent company got hacked back in March or so, compromising thousands of users data. If protecting your personal data seems like douchewafflery or if being forced to change your password is "jumping through hoops" then welcome to the real world. Not everything is a conspiracy. That being said the transition could have been handled better. Personally, I can be a bit obsessive when it comes to cyber security, often using a VPN or end-to-end encrypted email but to each their own.

Kevin, are you good or do you want me to see if I can get someone to contact you regarding your regular account?
