Just got back from my "range" up the hill. This was my first opportunity to fire my newest Garand, 1954 H&R.
I used a tennis ball at 100' and killed it. 6 out of 8 hits. Moved to a golf ball at 75' and got 7 out of 8.
The reason for the golf balls is I live on a course and have an endless supply.
Loads of fun watching them launch after being struck.

FYI: it seems the life expectancy of a golf ball is 6 hits of 30.06

Hey Bearcat, your close, I used my M1 carbine to putt with
Expensive golf but much more fun that using an old club for sure!

So Rat! That's what they mean by "shooting golf"! Might have to try that on the Robert Trent Jones Golf course they have up here!

When I was 14 I could take a Garand apart and put it back together blindfolded. Jr ROTC in high school.

That said, I didn't get to touch a Garand until I was an adult. None available where I grew up.

Yes times have changed, We had a rifle team and a .22 range in the basement of the high school. Can you imagine that today? That was normal in those days, 1950s.
