I know this isn't exactly news, but Inland, I guess being on a roll with their M-1 carbine, are making a copy of the Ithaca M-37 Trench Gun. I admit to drooling slightly over the photos. I always liked the bottom ejection of the Ithacas I got to play with now and then...a long time ago...on a planet far, far away. The drool kinda stopped suddenly at the MSRP.

Haven't seen any locally, so I have no idea what the over the counter prices might be. $1239 and tax seems a little pricey, but what do I know. I never thought they'd sell any of those silly Taurus Judges, but they did (and do) at prices I sure wouldn't pay. And the M-37 is a realistic defensive weapon.

Anybody seen one up close?

No, but at that price I will keep my Remington 870 and Browning Auto-5.

I have an old Remington model 17 which is the exact same action, John Moses Browning's last pump shottie before he went semiauto. It's 20 gauge though....and worn enough I am dubious of its functionality, but it belonged to my father.

An interesting design....this shucked spent shells down through the ....well, what would be the loading port on most shotties. It worked fine.

I hear you, Tommy. My only personal shotgun is a 12 gauge coach gun with a Remington brand but made by Baikal. Kicks like a very irritated Missouri mule, but hasn't ever failed to go off when I wanted it to.

Our department shotguns are a mostly Mossbergs with a smattering of Remington's. Truth be told, the Mossbergs have given very good service. I'd really have to put them in the "Best Buy" category.

I have a Mossberg 590 which I like very much. It also has a bayonet lug if I should ever need it.

My PD used M37s in patrol cars for years. They were surplus along with a bunch of S&W Victory models that was my first issue.

The Ithacas were mostly riot guns that had the shield and bayonet lug removed and then chrome plated. When the pD switched to 870s I bought one

Awhile back I ended up with an Ithaca to work on. I think it was a 16 gauge and wouldn't feed. Which is apparently why someone gave it to my eldest grand-daughter.

I'm not real sure what I did to get it working, basically cleaned & lubed. I vaguely recall hearing that short stroking one could make things real interesting. The functioning was interesting-figuring out how to disassemble it was a real puzzle.

They are talking about standardizing, trading off the Mossbergs and going to 870's all around.
Also adding some dedicated to bean bags. Unfortunately no plans to allow a purchase.

Saw an 870 Express with 6 shot mag and black furniture at my favorite LGS yesterday for $240 used. That's hard to pass up.

Frankly, I cannot imagine that Inland (or anyone else) can sell Ithaca Model 37 "clones" for 1200+ bucks, inasmuch as GOOD USED Model 37s, in various gauges/chokes/barrel lengths/mag tube lengths, sell in South Texas routinely for 250-350.oo but "plain Jane" condition.

I plead "guilty as charged" to being a FAN of the 37, as I'm a southpaw & the Mossberg/870/Winchester pump-guns kick shells & sometimes HOT gas out into my face.

I'm a southpaw too but don't have problems with my Mossberg 500 riot gun or my very old Savage Model 28 copy of a Winchester Model 12. I prefer one of my doubles to a pump and dislike autos especially the hump-backed monster, the Browning Model 5.

stand watie is correct. Even on Gun Broker the 37 isn't breaking $300.

Yeah Geoff, but this is the Trench Gun version with a heat shield and bayonet lug. I guess that's what the selling points are. Not worth the money to me, but...
