I'm feeling REALLY sorry for these Iraqi soldiers wearing this ridiculous blue fleck camo in the land of sand and rocks. How on earth does something like that make it into the field; they stand out like a neon sign saying "shoot me". And besides standing out like a sore thumb, dark colors in a desert envirnment...is heat stroke the goal??
The soldiers appear to be law enforcement (???), one of the guys has SWAT on his vest, and the Humvee is black with what appears to be LE markings.

The camo looks very similar to US Navy blue digital which while fashionable, I can't imagine ANYWHERE where such camo makes much sense. (and I believe the Pentagon finally put a stop to it).

It may well be that some Iraqi higher-up liked the look, regardless of practicality. :ek:

Still in the same general area but this is Afghanistan rather than Iraq. Your tax dollars in action.

Reports: Pentagon to send nearly 4,000 troops to Afghanistan

The U.S. government may have overpaid nearly $30 million for uniforms for the Afghan National Army because it used a private contractor who offered a camouflage pattern that is unsuited to the country's terrain, the Pentagon's Special Inspector General for Afghanistan has found.

The report blames the high cost, and the selection of a forest pattern, on the decision to select a "proprietary" pattern that would make it harder for enemy forces to obtain the same camouflage pattern as the Afghan National Army.

"Our analysis found that DOD's decision to procure ANA uniforms using a proprietary camouflage pattern was not based on an evaluation of its appropriateness for the Afghan environment," the report said. "We also found that the procurement costs to the U.S. government were 40-43 percent higher."

The report said former Afghan Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak "ran across" the pattern on a website in 2007, and "liked what he saw."

Tribal warlords like to show off...
Besides which, everyone involved in a purchasing process gets a cut is an old and honored tradition in a lot of places. As is taking care of relatives.
