My wife just went back to work after her Hip Replacement. PT 2x week, but she was back on the computer as soon as the Hospital let her go.

Terry, back to the old drill "PT more PT can do Drill Sergeant can do!"
Geoff
Who is also back in PT getting a graduate degree in walking, hopefully without a limp.

Sorry guys. I've had a strange month and a half or so. I apologize for not posting sooner.

Most of you know I was injured in a single car MVA about 6 years ago. Left hip was shattered by the femur, right leg shattered from the tibial plateau down, staff set in the left leg...anyway, 14 months later back to work. I had an administrative/supervisor position so the sheriff had no problem with me on a cane and wheelchair.

I always had pain in the left hip...sciatic nerve was crushed there, major foot drop, numbness, some muscles worked some didn't. Over the years the pain got worse and worse. Figured it was just what it was...the injury, age, and way too much body weight. Last day in August I felt something give. Major ouch. That I pulled a muscle or something real bad, it would get better. It didn't. Normally no big deal. Call my surgeon get evaluated. Unfortunately I had a death penalty case that was returned on appeal and the trial was set for Sep 22. Wasn't no way no how this was going to get postponed, figured I would tough it out. The bad guy ended up pleading guilty to life without. Got in to see my surgeon and it turned out the head of my femur had sheared off. The thigh bone was no longer connected to the hip bone. Had surgery Sep 13. Doctor said the head of my left femur looked like cottage cheese. He was able to literally scoop it out. He was amazed I had gotten around as long as I had.

Released from hospital on the 15th, be in rehabbed at home. Had my staples pulled today. Been juggling some other stuff (like my 8 year old PC finally melted down), few other family issues. Just haven't been doing much but getting used to my left leg being longer, muscles stretched out, keeping tabs on the cases my guys are working, keeping up with rehab and doing what I can around the house.

Picked up a new PC today. Will set it up tonight or tomorrow. I promise I will be posting my usual dumb questions and smart ass remarks ASAP. :D

Seriously, I am really sorry for not filling y'all in sooner, and very touched that you were concerned.

Glad to be back, SW. I'll be setting up the new PC tomorrow. I hate typing on my phone (just check out the freakin' typos in my previous post).

Take care.

Mucho gracias, sir. We Irish leave just as much of an impression when we leave as when we're around I guess.:D

The rehab really isn't that bad. I kinda went through it before when they pieced the pelvis back together. Now it's a matter of getting use to the difference in gait and balance and the muscles being stretched longer.

Guess I should start another thread, but while I've got y'alls attention, I am going to replace the recoil springs in the Swalther P1 I got a while back. It's dated 5/77 and I have a feeling these are the originals. Looks pretty straightforward, but I've been fooled before. Any tips or pitfalls anyone is aware of?

Dittos all around, compadre. As someone who finds myself starting to have Bad Hip Days with alarming regularity in my midthirties and no broken bones ever, I can't even begin to imagine what you must've been going through.

Since so much was replaced and/or reconstructed Terry I'm hoping this procedure will leave you more...shall we say, ambulatory...than before. Good luck with the rehab, and welcome back my friend.
Same here, Mike. Deb says my gait is more normal now than it has been in years...'course that's about the only thing about me that's normal.

We shall see...

If you legs are unequal in length have a lift built into the shoe/boot of the short one. Otherwise you might develop lower back pain. BTDT.
