Judge puts IRS under oath on the e-mails.

Federal judge orders IRS to explain lost Lerner emails

It's amazing to me to think they really thought this would work; that's just stupidity right there. This is political, the republicans have their teeth into this good and they're not going to let go. What's more there is political gain and republicans smell blood in the water. They should have just stepped up and confessed, now the offense will be even greater. Idiots.

The idea is to stonewall until POOTUS is out of office.
I really don't think this one is going to go all the way to the White House...but maybe I'm wrong. To me this has always sounded like a department chief who has abused her power. It should be noted that liberal groups were targeted as well (wrongly if you ask me).

If this actually leads all the way to the White House than the President is even dumber than I thought...And I don't give him much credit for brains to begin with.

From what I understand the great preponderance of groups that were targeted were conservative groups. IIRC a few liberals were targeted but quickly approved, while many conservative groups went through a red tape jungle trying to get approval.
I don't know if it goes to Obama. OTOH, Truman had a sign on his desk that said "The buck stops here," while it seems to me most presidents since and Obama especially say "what buck? I never saw no buck? Whatcha talking about?"

Oh well. I suspect I will be well entertained by the political nabobs over the summer months .....

The hard disks that the dog ate belong to Lois Lerner and six other folks, several of which work in the WH. The stubbornness the regime is showing in maintaining the stonewall leads me to believe we're in Nixonian territory.

Article 2, Section 1 - Nixon Articles of Impeachment

(1) He has, acting personally and through his subordinated and agents, endeavored to obtain from the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, confidential information contained in income tax returns for purposes not authorized by law, and to cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigation to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.

Use of IRS info for non IRS purposes is a felony; if it's traced to the WH, it's impeachable so there's a lot at stake here. I think POOTUS knows the jig is up and has just decided to foul the nest on his way out.

My sister retired a few years back as a GS13 with the IRS. I mentioned the "lost" emails to her recently and she just laughed. They only "lose" what they want to lose...

Walt, I don't doubt that at all.

I don't think that there is a single reasonably intelligent person in this country who believes the IRS's version of the e-mail story. Some polls show that 70% of the country believe the IRS is lying...if not the White House.

This administration has excelled at the "Move along...Nothing to see here" style of government, and have only gotten away with it because the majority of the press are so enamored of Obama and despise the Republicans.

And the administration, fully cognitive of that fact, uses it to their full advantage. They concoct and implement the most egregious of political strategies and implement them, knowing full well the majority of the media will let it slide.

It's like a family ignoring an odd uncle's behavior at a holiday get together. "Pay no attention dear...he can't help it."

It is at the point where they know everyone knows they are lying and they don't care. Most of the media and the rest of the American political and pop culture establishment will do the Emperor's New Clothes thing to the bitter end, if it ever comes, because they threw in so much shilling for the guy.

Except that unlike Congress, you DO NOT stonewall a Federal judge, ESPECIALLY THIS Federal judge.
He's the one that nailed the hides of several Federal Attorneys to the wall a couple of years ago.
They were the ones who filed politically motivated charges against the Alaska Senator RIGHT before an election and cost him his seat.
The judge wasn't having any and they would up disbarred as I recall.

Federal judges have great powers, including subpoenas and search warrants, plus the power to appoint special prosecutors.
Fail to produce documents he demands, and you find US Marshalls putting you in cuffs.
If Congress demands documents and they fail to produce, Congress has to find them in contempt, then hand it over to Holder to prosecute. Of course Holder does nothing.
A Federal judge doesn't have to deal with the Justice Department or Holder, he can issue arrest warrants and search warrants.

He's well known as a honest, no-fear judge who has the power to appoint a special prosecutor, and he's well known for picking them with great care to insure they're effective men who don't get side tracked or blown off.
He has the IRS and the White House scared to death because he does have the power to appoint a special prosecutor, and because he won't and can't be deterred.

Remember the smirky, insolent faces and attitudes of the IRS people in front of congress, with that "How DARE you call ME in here like this"?
Try that in front of this judge and they'll suddenly notice the US Marshall bailiff putting the cuffs on so they can spend a while in jail for contempt.

The IRS and White House's greatest fear has always been an effective judge and/or Special Prosecutor with the power to dig out the truth and the authority not to be deterred.
You'll note that after years or blowing Congress off, the FIRST day before this judge he laid some law on them and ordered that documents be produced in 30 days.
Not said but VERY clear is an "or else".

Does anybody remember how they say "Bullshit!" in Blackrobese? I'm expecting to hear that called a whole bunch against Allgemeine-IRS on this one...

To ALL<

WHERE is a GOOD man like Judge John Sirica, when we need such a tough & no-nonsense judge to CLEAN OUT the mess that is the BHO mis-administration???

In my humble opinion BHO is WORSE than jimmy Carter & Richard Nixon combined. = INCOMPETENT, DISHONORABLE & UTTERLY DISHONEST.

yours, satx

We have just such a judge in Judge Emmet G. Sullivan, currently hearing the case.

If anything, he's even more honorable then Sirica, and probably tougher.
The Federal Prosecutors who framed up the Alaska Senator certainly thought he was bare knuckles when they tried their BS on him.

Yeah, but I think what Allgemeine-IRS, and should their turn come up Waffen-ATF, call for is less "bare knuckles" and more "brass knuckles" from the bench...

Or they'll just have Reichssicherheitsministerium produce a Neues-SturmAbteilung "intercept" that makes the judge look like a terrorist and either drone-strike or render him... or just ship him to Gitmo.

Come on, we know NOTHING is beneath the Terrorist, Traitor and Tyrant in Chief...

Here's the math (cleaned up a little from an email that's going around:

The odds of winning the Florida lottery are 1 in 22,957,480.

The odds of a disk drive failing in any given month are roughly one in 36.

The odds of two different drives failing in the same month are roughly one in 36 squared, or 1 in about 1,300.

The odds of three drives failing in the same month are 1 in 36 cubed, or 1 in 46,656.

The odds of seven different drives failing in the same month are 1 in 36 to the 7th power, or 1 in 78,364,164,096 (that's over 78 Billion).

In other words, it is 3,400 times more likely that you will win the Florida Lottery than that you will have seven hard drives fail in the same month.

Assuming you have those 7 hard drives and only those 7 hard drives, but that is the story the IRS seems to be peddling.
7 sounds like a lot, unless they're counting the backup server. But regardless, the FBI could find the data on the bad drive easy enough. But most use RAID type array's which is "Striping and Parity". What that means is that across several hard drives there will be pieces of all the other hard drives. So when one fails, you insert another drive and the remaining drives rebuild the lost drive. Depending on the drive, can take an hour to a few hours to rebuild the drive. There's no way their e-mail server isn't on a RAID array or something similar.

Now that's for a crashed drive, if the e-mails were actually deleted, then that's a very different story, and depending on how they were deleted will determine what it takes to get them back or if they can be retrieved at all.
