As promised, here are pictures of my two King-sighted 1911 Colts, a .45 National Match and a .38 Super Match.

In addition to the King sights, the .45 also has King grips. It's not known how many of these were made, but they are certainly more numerous that the Super Match.

And now, for my most recent acquisition, the Super Match. It's the rarest of the rare, and to say I'm ecstatic would be an understatement.

Mike's right... pre war Colts- pistols or revolvers- are prime examples of how to finish steel. The NM and Super Match have polished rails and inside surfaces of the slide that took some real time to do by hand.

Kevin we did shoot the super and were pleasantly surprised by how well it shot. I've cooked up a few mild handholds over the weekend and will shoot it a little more this week and I've got a couple of others- relics from my IPSC days- for comparison

You ain't the Lone Ranger, Charlie. Between my wife and my daughters, I've had my hat handed to me too many times to count, in a variety of areas.

I got used to it. :(

He he....When my future father brought my future mother from Connecticut down to 'Bama to introduce her to his family, a family friend was the local sheriff. Out in some field somewhere, the sheriff drove up and had the chance to be introduced to my mother.
Thinking they'd have some fun with a "Yank," the sheriff, who had a brand new revolver, lent it to her, tossed a empty can out into the field and told her to try a shot.
My mother aimed and fired~~
"PING!"
~~ and the can flies up about ten feet! The sheriff manages to stammer out, "c-c-can I have my gun back now?";-)
What they didn't know about my future mother was she spent her summers vacations from college working as a girl's camp instructor .....
Riflery.
Yup. She hadn't fired a handgun before that ... but she knew what a sight picture was.

Outshot by a Lady

Amy and I shot it yesterday. I used to get offended when someone outshot me with my own gun. Fortunately I got over it.
Julie regularly kicks my butt. Tim can testify that if you are shooting iron sight rifle in a Steel Challenge match that Julie has entered.........you are shooting for second place.:argh:

You know what used to be really fun? The range I frequented in college still had some of those nasty "Wimmin Got No Bidniss Here, Dis Is MAN STUFF" sorts around... and the traditional stakes for challenges were that the loser had to walk across the parking lot to the taco shack and bring back lunch for the *whole* firing line. It was real funny, watching petite little college girls who I was mentoring in Personal Protection kick their asses up one side of the line and down the other...

"Oh, by the way, I take mine with Double Meat and Triple Cheese and Extra Sour Cream." :)
