Having read the "Manifesto" (I won't post it here) this dude is a dangerous S.O.B.

I won't get into the personal or political rants, but the manifesto has him bragging about his knowledge of police response tactics and threatening officers' families and friends as well as them personally.

This is a bad one. I hope they have some plans he doesn't know, or can figure something about him he doesn't know they know. The familiarity can go both ways, so that is my biggest hope. There has already been enough pain out of this one.

We know the LAPD is corrupt and people get frustrated. This is way too extreme a response. I fear we are seeing the response to the Media creating a "Media Hero" out of a psycho killer making it bigger than Jesus the week before Christmas.

There HAS to be much more to this story. Why did the cops key in on that particular vehicle. Either there was a fairly good reason, and the media would rather let the controversy simmer for a few days just to sell more copy. Or there was absolutely NO reason at all, and the reporters are just too damned stupid to really key in on hyped up cops over-reacting in a stressful situation. What was that about “Protect and Serve?”

DavidE, be sure to keep the 'whole' manifesto; the media has purged their versions, omitting many of his other motivations and convictions.

Yes, including the sections about his planned tactics and such. Worth reading on that.

Also, you are right about the political stuff. Sort of like the Unabomber, his motivations may be inconvenient to some in the media.

More about the mistaken ID shooting, and another incident in which officers opened fire on what turned out to be the wrong person:

The news anchor calls the shootings "collateral damage." Worth noting some of the climate in the local media there.

Anyone know where to find the whole manifesto somewhere online?
Some things most media versions have cut are posted here, with some personal info redacted, but with some operational stuff and the political rantings.

The whole thing can be found here. Be warned it contains personal info as well as the admitted murderer's reference to his tactics and ideology, as well as political rantings:

NP Kevin. It's very messed up. Not a mind one wants to look into, really.

That the guy went after family members makes him lower than whale :censored: IMO.

In other news, the two women shot earlier by LAPD officers seeking the suspect have retained an attorney who says they were fired on from behind without warning. I hope they get this suspect, the "buck fever" is adding to the danger out there.

Apparently detectives had staked out a house of a potential target of this creep when the two women drove through delivering the newspaper.
As a customer service, they always drove through with their lights out to prevent waking their customers.

The detectives took this to be probable trouble and things when wrong from there.
No real excuse, but at least partially understandable.
I suspect their careers are pretty much over.
And the ladies will be able to BUY the newspaper company with the money they'll get.

I liked the early reports that this guy was a Navy combat vet, trained sniper, and possible Tea party member.
He did a short tour in Bahrain, never heard a shot fired in anger, and managed to earn a Navy Marksman medal, the lowest qualifying level.

Then his manifesto hit. Suddenly the Lefties who love to blame Conservatives for these things dropped that part of it like a red hot cannon ball.

Sounds like one of those people who manage to somehow slip past the screening and get hired.
From reports, he's had a Lefty attitude for some time, and didn't like his female training officer holding him to standards.
He decided to jam her up and it backfired.
Lie during probation and you're out.

This was THE top story yesterday (or was it the day before), and then the manifesto/leftist stuff came out, and since then it's been luck to get one sentence after the first commercial on the hourly radio news. Yup, the Ministry of Propaganda wishes the story would just go away.

I suspect he's eaten his gun by now...
He may have, and if he killed himself in a way so he'd be hard to find, it may be some time before his body was found. Thinking fresh snow in those mountains, or places like the LA River where he might have gone.

However there is another possibility. He may be thinking of police tactics to go full out, and taking a rest period to see if the coverage slackens or wait to move when he thinks the officers defending have been burning the oil for some time.

That said he could also be in full evasion just to evade at this point, I keep thinking of the Olympic Park Bomber who hid in a wilderness area for a long time before he was finally run down, though this ground is much different than the ground the Olympic Park Bomber was hiding in, and he may be somewhere else. Either way, until they find him in one condition or another it's a really bad deal because there is a lot to cover and he has shown himself so dangerous to LEOs as well as others, including LEOs' families and friends. He is dangerous as long as he is out there.

Also, dfaris, thank you for the explanation. That plus the truck silhouette, and it being hard to tell colors in low light sometimes, go a way towards explaining how the mistaken engagement could have taken place.

Anybody else sick of the "Rogue Cop" identifier? Or is my skin a little too thin?

I can't help but think of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory". There was an episode where his "World of Warcraft" account was hacked, and Sheldon asked the cop there to take a report if he knew of any Rogue Cops that had quit the force in disgust and was dealing out justice his own way.

On a more serious note, the manifesto attributed to this maniac looks like a textbook paranoid-schizophrenic rant to me, with delusions of grandeur thrown in. He reminds "them" that he has a Barrett .50 cal and will take out aerial support with it.

But he does support an assault weapons ban...:-?

That may be what happened, but if that's their story, it is a confession, not an explanation. A truck is not an ID. Assuming it is permissible to shoot this guy on sight (and I think an excellent argument can be made for that, even if you can't find policy to support it) you still have to positively ID him.

I'm not so sure. A good number of leftists read the whole manifesto and apparently made this miscreant into a hero. Just when I think the left can't do anything to shock me anymore, they sink to a new low.

What angers me the most is that the LAPD announced they're now double-checking the circumstances surrounding Dorner's firing. The LAPD should just buy some ads on radio and TV proclaiming, "If you feel the system has screwed you, a murder spree is more effective than an appeal."
