Apparently, in a case where a knife wielding suspect who charged police was shot, the recommendation was that retreating was a better option than firing.

Los Angeles Police Commission Tells Officers To Run Away from Armed Suspects - Blue Lives Matter

<Los Angeles Police Commission Tells Officers To Run Away from Armed Suspects - Blue Lives Matter >

To my admittedly uninformed opinion, I was figuring that apparently nobody ever told the commission that made the recommendation why the U.S. Army developed the .45 Automatic.

However, if such a suspect could be contained, I don't know. I was wondering f I could get some feedback from more experienced folks on the matter.

RUN from an armed maniac and let them do whatever they like to whomever they please? Doesn't that defeat the entire POINT of having armed police, or for that matter ANY kind of government at all?

This pretty much solves the open carry issue in California.
Next step will be, anybody seen with a gun, roll out the tactical units and Stempop On Spot unless they're one of The Religion Of Peace. This is Hellifornia we're talking about...

Charlie, times have changed. The Border Patrol here in Texas has been ordered to retreat when they encounter "mules" and wets who are armed.

Men, let's review. My comment was in jest of course, but the point was that if cops are ordered to walk away from someone carrying a weapon, whether open carry is legal or not is a moot point.

Sheesh.
"Men"? Who died and made YOU an Ossifer around here?! :p :D

(But seriously, you shoulda seen the retired-LTC prof I think of as "the dad I never had"... all but had to threaten strangulation to get me to stop "Sir"-ing him.)

From the article, it appears the Commission doesn't have command authority. However, if it does, the motto on the cars needs to change. Should then read: "To protect-if they're not too scary-and to serve."
