They say you always remember your first...they talk a lot, don't they?
I always enjoy reading about peoples first guns. It is easy for us to remember our first gun but for myself I had to think for a while to remember my last gun purchase. I had to go to the gun safe and look to find that it was my Tikka T3.

While not as well known in this country the Tikka is a slick bolt action with features and a price that should make the big American companies wet their pants. (I'm imagining that most of those guys are really old and wear Depends already...but I'm a bit twisted)

Anybody else have a cool "last gun" that maybe the famous, infamous, well known or otherwise gunwriters may have missed?

The last one I actually purchased, and which wasn't related in any way to any "gunwriter graft," was a perfectly dreadful-looking previously-owned Remington Model 788 in .223 Remington… paid $200 for the damned thing, which only retailed for $97.50 when it was brand new!

After I'd shot that puppy a couple of times, I decided that it had in fact been a bargain, and while beauty is always in the orbs of the on-looker, after I'd slapped a black synthetic RamLine stock on it, it was the ultimate cosmetic make-over. What a babe!

It was all part of a project for a DBI Books piece entitled "A Tyros Target Rifle," about my introduction to hand-loading… back at a time when I spent almost as much time at my basement bench as I do now at my computer.

It was a crash-coarse, and an endlessly fascinating one! Wow!, did I learn a lot about the great changes a miniscule amount of adjustment in seating depth and propellant charge could make!

With a cheap, also previously-owned Tasco 12X scope and a propitious recipe of once-fired American Eagle ("FC") brass, Winchester's excellent #748, some WSRs and Sierra 52-grain BTHPs, my Model 788 and I attained ¼ MOA groups within the year.

And as a simple matter of curiosity, I tested the engagement of the nine locking lugs and discovered that only three of them actually made the full contact! Helluva gun, and I've turned down $425 for it and the glass which cost $56.75 the first time around.

That was my last gun I purchased…

The last gun I purchased was a Marlin M1895 in .450 Marlin, the Guide Gun model with the 18' ported barrel. It has had exactly one box of Hornady factory ammo fired through it.

My avatar shows the last gun I acutally came into possession of, a Kimber Ultra Ten II .45ACP with a double stack 10 rd. mag and a combo polymer/aluminum frame. Nov. 26th of 2002 was the 25th anniversary for my wife Deb and me. We were planning on a blowout, since we never did get a honeymoon in the traditional sense. We had reservations at a riverfront hotel in Savanah, GA, and were going to spend 4 nights clubbing at the great jazz clubs just across the river. About 2 weeks prior to our departure, she fell and shattered her right wrist, and banged the heck out of her knee and head. So, change of plans. The hotel was kind enough to refund our pre-paid reservation, and that plus the additional funds we had set aside were used for more expensive gifts than originally planned. She gave me the Kimber, and I gave her a 22" strand of pearls.

I'm a libertarian, and believe in equal rights for all. Why should the wife be the only one to get a gift on the anniversary? It takes two to make a marriage, right? Since it takes a lot of loving effort to make a marriage work for any length of time, much less 25 years, I felt we were both deserving of a special gift, and so did Deb, God bless her lovely soul. So there ya have it.

My last gun was a Tikka T3 SS in 300WSM. Good shooter!
Puts factory fodder into 5/8" at 100yds. It shoots better
than a couple of my "tuned up" rifles. Might sell them and
buy some more Tikkas. (6.5 Swede and .223).

The last gun I bought was a Springfield .30-06 that had been sporterized. The stock is modified version of a Manlicher(sp) with a schnable forend. I think that's what it is called. Had the open sights but had been drilled for Williams peep sight. Also, the stock did not let the mag cutoff work, not cut out far enough.

Bought a new floor plate, follower and mag spring from Gun Parts Co. and installed them. Fixed the mag cuttoff and mounted a new Williams sight. Now it shoots pretty good but I haven't had a chance to really measure the groups. Fairly tight, but...

Paid around $200 for it. 8)

Yeah, got a genuine Indian Wars era Gattling Gun mount for it. The only reason there's no Gattling on the mount is because SC has a 5 rd. magazine limit on any centerfire cartridge used for hunting game animals. :lol:

I'm so glad we have a quality of people here that can gently kid each other about a typo. As Dean and some of the other old Prodigy denizens can attest, a mistake like that during a debate with the anti's on the politics board there would have constituted proof to the antis that I was an illiterate, ignorant, red-neck psycho gun nut, just itching for a chance to kill some one with a cannon.

Too bad we don't have a "Thumb your nose" smiley I could direct to Cate, Beeky, et al. (Did I use that Latin phrase correctly, Dean?)

I haven't the foggiest clue, but bad memories last a long time. If they are still alive, I'd sure love to be able to thumb my nose at 'em. Heck, I told Cate back in '94 that my then newly purchased Colt 1991A1 was going to be named in his honor: The EradiCATEr! HAH! He replied, "Enjoy your new gun." I did, and still am, and my Grandsons will probably be still enjoying it long after Cate and I have both returned to dust.....

I'll never foget Cate and another anti "supposed lawyer" laughing about one of my posts on another board, saying how stupid I was about the Miller decision because it was a default decision without the adversarial process. It proved to me that neither of them had taken the time to research the entire Miller incident, and probably only read exerpts from the SOCUS decision. I've read Miller, several times, and in it, the Court clearly declares that the "militia" is all able-bodied men above the age of 17 capable of bearing arms, and it also clearly states at the begining that there was no representation or filed brief on behalf of the defendants. Since there was no defense presented, the justices by law had to rule on the evidence presented at trial, and thus, it was a default ruling. I don't know if that's the proper legal term for it, but that's just a semantics issue. It was clear that the SOCUS justices themselves were not even that familiar with the NFA '34 act. If it's not in violation of the Second amendment to place a tax on a firearm "which bears no relationship to a militia," then how could it possibly be Constitutional to place that SAME TAX upon weapons that, at the time of the ruling, were clearly "militia weapons" in use by the US military forces, including the National Guard? "Lawyer Cate" and company were ignorant of these facts as far as I was ever able to determine....or maybe they weren't and were just ignoring them, and their laughter was akin to that of someone whistling in the dark as he passes a graveyard at midnight; trying to build up courage when you're terrified. I prefer to think the latter. I had 'em by the short 'n' curlies, and they knew it, but were too cowardly to admit it. Like most ignorant bullies, they attempted to bluster their butt-whippin' into a victory for themselves. Closed minded Fools.

Last purchase?

Was browsing the racks of the local gun shops when I spotted a NIB, pre-ban (SN 061XXX) SA M1A rifle. Walnut stock, USGI chrome bbl, w 2 USGI hicap mags, sling, cleaning kit/oiler/combo tool in stock, the works. Asking price was $1450. There had been lots of interest in it but no buyers. We settled on $1100 and I am very happy w that. Had the gunsmith give it a once over before the sale just in case. Turned out to be a much better shooter than I deserve.

Of course, I had to get a bayonet for it; didn't want that lug going to waste.

I like buying old guns in excellent shape at good prices. Before this there was a 1967 Rem 700 BDL in .308 w 3x9 Redfield, and a SA M1 Garand (1943) ...

My last gun is an FN-FAL Belgian Congo (DSA SA-58 ).

I fell in love with the weapon after holding one for the first time about 10 years ago at a gun show. I did my homework, saved my pennies and bought this rifle directly from the company last year. It was built to order by DSA and all parts were given a layer of Dura-coat in an "HK Black" finish.

It depicts my FAL, HK USP Compact .45, Cold Steel Tanto, Benchmade 5000 SBT and 1 Trojan.

It is either a really nice stock Colt Series-70 Gov't model _or_ an even sweeter Springfield M1 I got from the CMP, the wood is awsome and some local M1 "expert" said it was a definate keeper. Wish 30-06 was cheaper, because I like it better than any rifle I own....
Though I think I may have gotten my 342-1 PD, which is only slightly less horrible to shoot than CP's 44mag.

Next up ! A desert eagle :twisted:
