just learned something cool about garands, on another board.
never recall see it mentioned here.
so i thought i would share........for all newbies.

the other thread was reguarding a round failing to fire. the operater simply ejected the unfired round.

somebody mentioned that flipping the rifle over(not required, just easier to do) and "racking" the trigger guard will RE-cock the weapon, without ejecting the/a live round.


i never realised this as i always check the chamber before messing with it(any weapon), when field stripping.

Cocking the rifle using the trigger guard was taught in the military to keep from opening the bolt on a round that might hang fire.
