Until there is a pan and Rod Serling starts his monologue all we have is speculation.
So many "events" have been put out there that have later been disavowed I hesitate to guess. The plane made a left turn, then no it didn't .... wait no it seems it may have ......there's a Chinese satellite photo of what may be wreckage .... wait, it isn't after all.... the electronics were turned off... huh? It flew 4-5 hours after the communications stopped.
I'd defy Sherlock Holmes to correctly deduce what happened.

Crew or crew member. Transponder off and communications going off says person(s) knew what was what. Also satellite pings says plane flew another four hours. Yes, modern auto pilot could keep it going as even the smaller, earlier jet Payne Stewart was in, kept it going. Pilot or co-pilot could obviously fly it alone or they did it together. Pilot drugged co-pilot or vice versa. Either could have attacked the other or again, they did it together. Will be interesting to find out, if ever, what went on.

Knowing what we know today, I have to agree with sarge: pilot involvement. Two acts, i.e. departing from the programmed course and turning off the transponder, require deliberate actions by a knowledgable operator. Both of those actions were accomplished by the 911 hijackers, but terrorism requires that the world be informed as to it's motive; the longer we wait, the less likely that seems.
There may be other scenarios that fit all the known facts, but I'll be damned if I can think of them.

Have to agree that it's all one big question mark, albeit a suspicious one. Cap'n is right...terrorism makes no sense if they don't take credit for it.
I thought for a minute that perhaps the plane was accidentally shot down and those responsible just didn't want to admit it, but that doesn't seem to fit anymore...if they info being released is accurate to any degree.

No way to know until the aircraft is found. But what little we have to go on sure looks like foul play.
Until we find it, I'm sticking with Aliens. Not likely, but much cooler than terrorists or mechanical failure.

Very odd. There was speculation that a Satphone was embedded in some or many jetliners after 9/11 that would be remotely controlled and not accessible by crew.
The plane, the plane, is a BIG piece of equipment to hide from intel satellites, outputs of which I am sure are being analyzed by all the major powers as we chat.
I suspect Singapore, they have the technology and the sneakiness.
An outbreak of Zombie disease being isolated at the Russian base in Viet Nam?

Well now that they say it's most likely foul play, any speculation? I don't have the first clue, but since nothing's been heard or said, I tend to think the aircraft is in the drink.
