"Over the weekend we lost one of our great Air Force space forefathers, Lt. Gen. John G. Albert. His many contributions toward furthering America's exploration and use of space span from long-range missile testing and work with the Atlas ICBM program to historic leadership in manned space flight as chief of the Gemini Launch Division and launch director for all 12 Gemini launches. Today we remember him as an Airman, a patriot and an innovator for space. The Air Force mourns his loss, yet we're comforted knowing his legacy is forever forged as a founding author of America's leadership in space. " -- Gen. Jay Raymond, Commander, Air Force Space Command."

I never met the man but he and my father became friends as they attended the same church, and "Jack" hosted church picnics on his farm near Elon, Virginia.
