The M3 is a fine "sticker", but seriously lacks versatility.
The Kabar is a better "general" tool, but lacks mass in the blade for heavier chopping.

Both would be too large for day to day belt carry, IMO.

As knives to "have around", I think they are both essential...

Does it have to be one or the other? If not, I'd suggest the Cold Steel SRK. It's a great general purpose knife that can handle most tasks.
