Anyone who works very hot metal without eye protection and better protective clothing is more than a few fries short of a happy meal.

I noticed that too. My second thought is that those shots were staged for the camera. They're wearing eye protection when using the belt sander.

I watched a blacksmithing demo at Coloma last weekend. I don't recall the blacksmith wearing eye protection while hammering out a fixture in mild steel. The hammering was not violent. Pretty much the weight of the hammer. All the smith does is steer it around.
